PEORIA, Ill. — The week leading up to Christmas is busy for everyone.
But, at Peoria’s South Side Mission, they’re getting ready to feed over 2,400 people at the end of the week.
The Mission’s Rich Draeger said the prep work started Monday morning as they baked pies, rolls and prepped the cranberry sauce.
“We’ll have the side dishes prepared one day, we’ll slice the ham one day, and then on Wednesday we’ll put it all together and get it ready to be delivered Friday morning,” Draeger said.
That’s new this year, Draeger adds, since the Christmas meals have traditionally been distributed on Christmas Day.
In addition to the deliveries, South Side Mission will host a Christmas dinner for the community Friday (Christmas Eve) in-house at 11:30 a.m.
“South Side Mission is so happy to be marking our 50th year of this tradition of preparing and delivering holiday meals to residents of Peoria who may be without,” said Rev. Craig Williams, the Mission’s executive director.
