PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria City Council member is running for a second term.
He filed his candidacy papers on the first day of filing, but At-Large Council Member John Kelly says on the last day of candidate filing Monday he’s running for a second term in next April’s election.
Kelly says in a campaign announcement he’s “one of the most conservative members of the City Council,” also saying he is one of the lone votes against funding for the proposed Peoria-to-Chicago passenger rail project.
“Kelly has been one of the most conservative members of the City Council and continues to advocate for his number one goal – making Peoria’s economic climate much more welcoming to investment, which will result in more high-wage employment and create relief from Peoria’s super-high property taxes,” said a press release.
He’s one of eleven people running for the At-Large council seats so far, according to the Peoria County Election Commission, including Kiran Velpula (incumbent), Zachary Oyler (incumbent), Mike Vespa, Bernice Gordon-Young, Benjamin Nicks, Jr., Shawn Allen, Lawrence Maushard, Demario Boone, Anu Uddavolu, and Clara Underwood-Forman.
It would appear, as of 5 p.m. Monday, that incumbents Beth Jensen and Sid Ruckriegel are not running again, now that the filing period has officially ended.
