CHICAGO, Ill. – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-East St. Louis) joined President Joe Biden in Chicago Wednesday to talk about “Bidenomics.”
The president’s speech focused on Biden’s economic policies and his vision for the economy moving forward. Biden plans on increasing taxes on the wealthy to fund job programs, education for workers, and increase economic competition.
“I said to the President when he got off his helicopter that I went to school many years ago and took an economics course. Studied economics, macro economics, micro economics, and now I’m being introduced to Bidenomics. And I like what I see. I like what it means for America,” Durbin said.
Durbin told the crowd that Biden’s plan would build a strong foundation for the middle class, adding that it would give them a fair shake and bring more people into the middle class.
He joined the President in criticizing a Republican economic theory of trickle-down economics.
“This top-down, trickle-down disaster of economics exploded national debt, shuttered American factories, hollowed out our communities, and left too many families and small businesses barely hanging on,” Durbin said. “Now, after 40 years of failure, the far-right wants to double down again with financial flim-flam. We’re not going to stand for it.”
Durbin finished the nearly seven minute speech by proclaiming more than 443,000 new jobs have been created in Illinois under the Biden administration, as well as working to protect workers’ rights to organize and join unions.
