LOS ANGELES – A Peorian who’s been living in California and works for Bradley University students there says Tropical Storm Hilary on top of an earthquake was quite an experience.
Connor Kelly lives in Los Angeles and is coordinator of Bradley’s “Hollywood Semester” program.
He tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan he saw there a lot of what you might see here when Midwesterners prepare for a snowstorm.
“There were people at Costco just panic-buying,” said Kelly. “I think I waited in line for gas for 45 minutes, which was not a lot of fun. Just a lot of shelves cleared out in the stores during the day.”
Kelly says and that was just Saturday. He says he saw a lot of residents panicking, versus someone from Peoria who would experience heavy rain during severe weather.
He says the San Fernando Valley, where he was, didn’t get a lot of rain, compared to Palm Springs.
“There was some flooding. But, overall compared to what Palm Springs got during the day, Los Angeles proper didn’t seem like it was hit too hard. I was talking with a friend, and she went to do errands during the day. She said there’s nobody on the roads. The roads are fine. Just a little slick.”
The Bradley University “Hollywood Semester” program started for the academic year Monday, traditionally a few days earlier than the normal semester.
