SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State grants have been awarded to two central Illinois communities to help with their walking trails.
East Peoria and Germantown Hills are each receiving $200,000 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
East Peoria will use the money towards the final stages of developing the Camp Street Trail, while Germantown Hills will use its money for an extension of the Village Park trail.
The two projects were part of 19 grants awarded, totaling more than $3.7 million.
The money reimburses up to 80% of the costs of improvements, such as land acquisition, trail construction and rehabilitation, equipment purchases, and restoring damaged areas.
