PEKIN, Ill. – For the first time, a national effort to honor fallen veterans during the holiday season has come to Tazewell County.
“Wreaths Across America” was present Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Pekin, placing a total of 560 wreaths on graves there, simply as another way to say “thank you” to those who had served in the U.S. military.
“These ladies and gentlemen fought for our freedom, and we need to be grateful to them,” said Debby Dant, location coordinator, to 25 News. “Giving them a wreath at Christmas is the least we can do.”
Location coordinator Debby Dant tells 25 News community volunteers made the wreath-laying happen.
Dant says she plans on hosting the event next year, and you can reach her through the North Pekin Amvets post on Facebook.
