WEST PEORIA, Ill. – Two people are injured – one seriously – after smoking caused a fire in West Peoria.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says the fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday on Barker Avenue, in between Waverly and Cedar Avenues.
Watkins says an elderly female using an oxygen tank was smoking when the fire broke out.
Both she and her son suffered smoke inhalation, but Watkins says the woman was taken to the burn unit of a Rockford hospital for further treatment.
A Limestone firefighter suffered a broken wrist while trying to put the fire out.
No word on how much damage was done.
