PEKIN, Ill. – The Tazewell County board is making some major upgrades to the county’s computer and internet systems in the wake of the pre-Thanksgiving cyber attack that officials say is still under investigation.
The board at a special meeting Thursday night voted to spend nearly $15,000 this fiscal year and next for an agreement with Stratus Networks for redundant internet service – in other words, internet service, and backup internet service.
The board also approved spending $800,000 with East Peoria’s Heart Technologies for what is called “managed IT services” that is expected to help prevent a future cyber attack.
County Board Chair David Zimmerman told a Peoria TV station it’s possible an Eastern European organization hacked in to the county’s systems, but the county may never truly know.
