NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State University appears to have its new leader, and did not have to look far for it.
The university’s Board of Trustees is planning to meet in a special meeting on March 18th to name Dr. Aondover Tarhule as the school’s 21st president.
Tarhule has served as interim president since February of 2023, after the resignation of Terry Goss Kinzy.
Prior to being named interim president, Tarhule was Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at ISU. The university says his accomplishments include securing approval for a new College of Engineering, leading the development of ISU’s next strategic plan, and helping create a new degree in Data Science.
Tarhule was one of four finalists for the position. The other three finalists were Dr. Donald Easton-Brooks, dean of the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Nevada, Reno; Dr. Elizabeth Reitz Mullenix, Provost and Executive Vice President at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; and Dr. Valerio Ferme, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Cincinnati.
