PEORIA, Ill. – The owner of a Peoria bar is being sued for allegedly playing unlicensed music.
Martini’s on Water Street is one of 15 venues or establishments across the country being sued by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
25 News reports owner Julie Walgenbach is accused of playing four songs without a license.
ASCAP is suing for statutory damages of $750 to $30,000 per song, plus attorney’s fees.
ASCAP says it made more than 60 attempts over several years to contact Walgenbach about the concerns via phone, email, and mail.
The organization says Walgenbach refused all license offers.
