PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria family was displaced by a fire Monday afternoon that caused tens of thousands of dollars of damage to their home.
Fire Battalion Chief Larry Carter says crews were called to the area of W. Lake Avenue and NE Scenic Drive around 2:25 p.m., finding smoke coming from the roof and eaves of the two-story home.
Firefighters worked quickly to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the attic and the roof.
Two adults and two children got out of the home safely before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours to make sure all hot spots were extinguished.
An investigator determined faulty electrical wiring was to blame for the fire.
Damage was estimated at $90,000.
