LOS ANGELES, March 15 (Reuters) – Amy Madigan won the best supporting actress Oscar on Sunday for her role as a nightmarish villain in the horror film “Weapons.”
Madigan, 75, was previously nominated for the 1985 movie “Twice in a Lifetime.” In “Weapons,” she plays Aunt Gladys, a witch in outrageous clothing whose role in the disappearance of a classroom of kids only becomes clear at the end of the story.
Asked what was different about this Oscar nomination, which came 40 years after her first nomination for “Twice in a Lifetime,” Madigan hefted the trophy and remarked, “what’s different is I got a gold guy.”
Madigan’s other films include “Uncle Buck,” “Field of Dreams” and “Streets of Fire.” She and actor Ed Harris have been married since 1983.
