PEORIA, Ill. – A Sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded in the line of duty earlier this year was presented with the Hometown Hero Award by Acting US Attorney Greg Gilmore.
Peoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Jack Evans was honored for his courage, strength, and professionalism after he was shot during a traffic stop.
Officials say Evans maintained his composure, relaying appropriate information, which led to the containment of the scene and eventual arrest of the suspect, Larry Bell.
Earlier this month, Evans received the Police Valor and Gold Star Awards.
Evans is continuing to recover and looks forward to returning to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office soon.
