PEORIA, Ill. – A judge had ordered detained a man accused of firing numerous gunshots at Peoria’s Glen Oak Park on Memorial Day.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 20-year-old Harlem Porter will remain in custody until trial after a hearing on Friday. He is charged with Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon…as well as Possession of a Fraudulent Identification Card.
Police responded to the park Monday at around 6:00 P.M. after 31 shots were fired and multiple vehicles were struck by bullets. Prosecutors allege 19 shots came from a handgun from Porter.
Officers were pursuing an SUV after arrival that had crashed and was registered to Porter, with a handgun reportedly found inside of it.
Porter was allegedly found hiding in a vehicle at a nearby gas station with an Indiana driver’s license with his photo on it.
Porter reportedly claimed self-defense and was shot at first when questioned by police.
