PEORIA (25News Now) – As questions remain about suspected immigration enforcement activity in Central Illinois, a group of Peoria community leaders are organizing a donation drive to help children and families facing uncertainty.
The Immigration Project has confirmed what it believes is an increased presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) across Central Illinois.
Meanwhile, local leaders are working to provide families with essential supplies, including food, diapers and other everyday necessities.
The initiative was started by Attorney Christopher McCall, Peoria School Board Member Dr. Gregory Wilson,Peoria Councilman Dr. Andre Allen and Marcus Hamilton. The group is encouraging residents, businesses, and community organizations to contribute.
Dr.Gregory Wilson said the effort is focused on meeting the immediate needs of children and families especially District 150 students who may be experiencing hardship amid immigration enforcement concerns in a time of uncertainty.
“No matter what aisle we’re on, one thing we can all get behind is our children and families and making sure that they feel supported,” he said.
