PEORIA, Ill. – A Pekin man is jailed in Peoria County on charges he was driving drunk and caused three people to be injured – one seriously.
Peoria Police say Nikolas Hammond, 34, was arrested in Bartonville after a traffic stop, and faces charges including Aggravated DUI Causing Bodily Harm, Vehicle Crash involving Injury or Death, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Give Information or Render Aid, Failure to Reduce Speed, and Unsafe Equipment.
The crash happened around 3:10 a.m. Saturday near Jefferson and MacArthur Highway, where police believe Hammond ran a red light, striking an occupied vehicle and two adult pedestrians.
Two people suffered minor injuries, while another had what were called serious injuries, and all were taken to the hospital.
Hammond, meanwhile, was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
