PEORIA, Ill. – A year-long fundraising effort by the Peoria Heights VFW has proven to be extremely successful in just its second year.
The post, assisted by the Peoria Sluggers and Jackets softball teams, delivered $10,000 worth of toys Sunday to Arabelle’s toy shop inside the Ronald McDonald House near downtown Peoria.
“I hope we can continue it on just so that it is a never-ending support system for [the Ronald McDonald House],” said Eric Thurman, Peoria Heights VFW Quartermaster, to 25 News. “It also gives the opportunities for the younger kids to give back and have that opportunity, that’s our goal.”
The softball teams say it’s a great team-building exercise, too.
The fundraiser is expected to continue next year.
