UPDATED 7:30 p.m.
ROME, Ill. — Crews from multiple area fire departments are on the scene of a large fire at an auto body shop near Chillicothe.
As of 5:30 p.m., plumes of smoke could still be seen coming from A-Plus Automotive on E. Knox Street in Rome.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Department closed off Rt. 29 and nearby railroad tracks due to fire hoses stretching across the street.
Drivers are being asked to find another route. Traffic is being diverted to surrounding residential areas.
At this point, there’s no word on any injuries or the cause of the fire. But, it does appear the building is a total loss.
As of 6:30 p.m. Friday, Assistant Fire Chief Jim Benisch did not know when Route 29 or several railroad crossings would be opened again.

No word on injuries or the cause of the fire just yet.
Multiple fire departments from the area are on the scene helping to fight the fire.
