FORT NOVESEL, AL – The crash of a military helicopter has claimed the life of a flight instructor and injured an Army student pilot.
The crash of the AH-64 Apache helicopter occurred Wednesday at Fort Novesel Army base, formerly known as Fort Rucker.
The victim is identified as Daniel Munger, 46, of Enterprise, Alabama. The Dale County coroner said Munger was a contractor and retired from the Army.
According to Munger’s Facebook page, he was from Dunfermline, near Canton, and went to Lewistown High School.
Military officials have said the crash occurred during routine flight training.
The Army student pilot was airlifted to a hospital for further evaluation.
No information concerning the circumstances surrounding the crash have been released, except that the incident is under investigation.
Fort Novesel is the Army’s primary training facility for helicopter pilots.
