EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria commissioners this week approved an ordinance that paves the way for future development in the Levee District.
The council on Tuesday approved the Levee District Overlay plan. It covers the area behind CostCo on Center Street, where the planned Center Street Crossing outdoor entertainment area will be located.
The plan allows for more sidewalk dining and entertainment options in the area. Bike accommodations, green space, and EV charging stations are also planned for the area.
Director of Planning and Development Ty Livingston says it also expands what businesses would be prohibited from operating in the area.
“Smoke shops, cannabis dispensaries, light industrial warehousing type uses. These are things that would not really be complementary to the Levee District,” Livingston said.
There’s no word yet on when construction for Center Street Crossing will begin.
