PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria City Soccer is back on the pitch in a historic weekend for the organization.
The men’s team begins its fourth season on Saturday night at home against FC Ambush of St. Louis.
Peoria City is coming off an appearance in the USL League 2 National Championship game last season. The game at Shea Stadium saw the Carp lose in extra time to Seacoast United Phantoms of New Hampshire.
Peoria City’s Matt Sheehan tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” that four players from last year’s team signed professional contracts around the world, in the United States, Spain, and Bulgaria. He says that can lead to bigger things for the Carp.
“We expect as we continue to grow and we attract better and better talent to Peoria that we will continue to see that flourish,” Sheehan said.
This year marks the inaugural season for Peoria City’s women’s team in the WSPL. They start the season Friday night in Indianapolis against FC Pride, before the home opener on May 24th against Lou Fusz Athletic of the St. Louis area.
Sheehan says Saturday night’s home game is First Responders’ Appreciation Night with the Germantown Hills Athletic Association and Germantown Hills Fire.
