WEST PEORIA, Ill. – West Peoria’s mayor is joining a coalition to help a former central Illinois resident’s bid for the United States Senate.
Jimmy Dillon on Wednesday endorsed Raja Krishnamoorthi in his run for Dick Durbin’s seat in the Democratic primary, as part of “Mayors for Raja.” The coalition features 20 current and former mayors, with a majority in the Chicagoland area.
Krishnamoorthi is a Peoria Richwoods graduate and current Congressman in Chicago’s suburbs 8th District.
In a statement, Dillon says the state needs a senator who ”doesn’t just visit downstate but understands our values and our communities.”
Dillon says that entails investing in economic development, protecting public education, and lowering everyday costs.
Krishnamoorthi is one of three candidates declared in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate next year. Lieutenant Gov. Juliana Stratton and Congresswoman Robin Kelly are the other declared candidates.
