PEORIA, Ill. – Kids running a lemonade stand in Peoria are making a big impact for children with cancer, achieving a fundraising goal and then some.
25 News reports a group of kids formed “Kickin’ Cancer in the Knolls,” which sells lemonade and other goodies at West Hollyridge Circle and North Bigelow Street.
Saturday, there were baked goods, snow cones, and t-shirts for sale, as well as lemonade. Kids designed the shirts, baked the cookies, and sent letters to event sponsors.
“I just really like helping the kids of St. Jude. It means a lot to me that they don’t have to worry about money, or where they’re going to get treatment, or what they’re going to do,” said 14-year-old Sloan Cranford, who designed this year’s t-shirts.
This year’s goal was to raise $50,000, and the kids surpassed that. The total after Saturday’s event was $55,095.25. They’ll keep collecting money until next weekend. You can see their final total Saturday during the St. Jude Telethon on WEEK-TV.
