PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) -The public will have a chance this coming week to hear from the Peoria area’s two incoming education leaders in an event hosted by the NAACP Peoria Branch and Elite Community Outreach.
The meet-and-greet, scheduled for Tuesday evening, will introduce the incoming president of Illinois Central College Dr. Jamonica Rolle and new Peoria Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jerry Bell.
NAACP President and Pastor Marvin Hightower said the goal is to give residents an opportunity to hear each leader’s vision for education in the community.
According to Hightower, the hope is that strong collaboration between schools and higher education will help students see clear pathways from high school into college programs, including opportunities for dual enrollment and credentialing through ICC.
“This is about letting leaders know the community is with them, while also making sure our students are being prepared and supported,” he said, emphasizing education as a key factor in reducing negative youth outcomes.
The event will take place Tuesday, June 30, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Peoria Gateway Building.
