PEKIN, Ill. — Peoria and Tazewell County Clerk & Recorder of Deeds Rachael Parker & John Ackerman are among the Sixteen Central Illinois County Clerks and Recorders, who teamed up to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a special video reading of the Declaration of Independence.
The video features the historic document being read in front of county courthouses and local landmarks across the region. Ackerman organized the event, which is a tribute to Timothy Matlack, the clerk who handwrote the original Declaration and gave its first public reading on July 4th, 1776.
The bipartisan project honors that tradition by bringing local clerks together to read the Declaration once again. A link to that video can be found below:
