EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The city of East Peoria is looking to grow to develop one of the few places left that it can.
On Tuesday night’s city council agenda is an item to approve the purchase of more than 272 acres of land from the Keil & Blye Farm property for more than $5.2 million.
The city won the land through an auction for a price of $19,100 per acre, with a 10% downpayment due at the close of the auction.
The agenda item comes with the caveat that it will be laid on the table for no less than one week for public inspection.
The land is located on the northwest corner of the city limits in the area of U.S. Route 24, Centennial Drive, and Grange Road.
Council documents state that the land is in the “best interests of the City” to acquire it for future growth in “one of the remaining growth corridors for the City.”
