PEORIA, Ill. – A former softball coach in Woodford and Tazewell Counties that was accused of sexually abusing a former player has died.
45-year-old Jason Rockhold passed away early Thursday morning at OSF Saint Francis in Peoria.
HIs death was confirmed by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, as well as Rockhold’s attorney John Lonergan. Harwood says an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Woodford County Sheriff Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword says Rockhold was found unresponsive in his cell just before 3:00 A.M., and life saving measures were performed before being taken to OSF. He says Illinois State Police are investigating the death.
Rockford faced numerous charges in both Tazewell and Woodford Counties that included sexual assault, child pornography, and grooming.
