PEORIA HEIGHTS (25News) – Peoria Heights held a groundbreaking for its first water filtration plant. Village officials said the plant will provide clean and reliable water that will be protected against forever chemicals. They said the plant is the largest public works project in the history of the Heights. The project is marked as an investment for future years to come.
Mayor Matt Wigginton said the cost is approximately $8 million with help from a forgivable loan program from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Wigginton said the project addresses complaints village residents have raised for years.
“It’s a game changer. We’ve heard complaints for years. We’ve kind of stood on the backs of achievements made generations ago. It’s now time to live up to our own example and create our own change. So, we’re building a stronger future in Peoria Heights,” Wigginton said.
The plant is located behind Bielfeldt Park at 5413 N. Galena Rd.
