SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Lottery says it recorded its highest-ever sales during the 2026 fiscal year while generating nearly $800 million for public schools.
The Lottery reported $3.87 billion in total sales during the fiscal year that ended June 30. It marks the fourth time in five years that the Lottery has set a sales record.
The Lottery generated $804 million in proceeds for the state, with $792 million going to the Common School Fund to support K-12 public education. Another $12 million went toward other causes supported by the Lottery.
“Reaching record sales again is a tremendous achievement for the Illinois Lottery, and it reflects the trust our players put in us every day,” Lottery Director Harold Mays said.
Players collected more than $2.7 billion in prizes from nearly 107.5 million winning tickets during the fiscal year.
That included 147 prizes worth at least $1 million. One Illinois online player won a $536 million Mega Millions jackpot.
Lottery retailers received $176.5 million in commissions and bonuses from ticket sales.
Online lottery sales also reached a record $757 million during the fiscal year.
The Lottery says it also received the highest level of responsible gaming certification from the World Lottery Association during the year.
The reported $804 million in proceeds for the state has not yet been audited. Final audited returns are expected to be released later this year.
