CHICAGO, Ill. – Governor JB Pritzker is lifting another COVID-19 executive order.
The Pritzker administration Thursday saying that in line with new CDC guidelines, unvaccinated employees of schools and daycare centers will no longer be required as of Friday to test weekly for COVID.
Pritzker’s administration calls it part of a “continuing plan to carefully unwind” the state’s requirements.
The governor, though, saying that vaccination is still “the most effective tool we have” against COVID-19.
“It remains our continued goal to address the health risks of COVID-19, but current conditions of the pandemic are different from those of the last two years,” said Dr. Sameer Vohra, director, Illinois Department of Public Health, in a news release. “There are now many tools available for protecting our students, teachers and the general public, including the latest updated bivalent vaccines and effective treatment options for children and adults. It continues to be important to remain home if you have COVID-19 symptoms, per CDC recommendations.”
New case numbers in Illinois have been dropping in recent weeks, while Peoria and Tazewell Counties continue to be at a “medium” level of community spread of the virus.
