PEORIA, Ill. – A Washington woman has pleaded guilty to her role in an accident that claimed the life of a man on a motorized bicycle almost two years ago.
Peoria County Court records indicate Destinee Cole, 23, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence. A misdemeanor charge and a traffic offense both filed were dismissed in exchange for the plea.
Cole was in a SUV that struck Corey Griffin, 33, near the intersection of Waverly and Kellogg Avenues in East Peoria June 7, 2021, as she didn’t come to a complete stop.
Griffin, who was not wearing a helmet, was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Cole is scheduled to be sentenced April 27th. She could face eight years in prison.
