PEKIN, Ill. – Tazewell County’s first case of West Nile Virus was discovered this week.
The county health department says a mosquito pool collected on Tuesday in Pekin tested positive for the virus. The pool was collected as part of routine testing.
Health department officials are reminding people to take precautions, as mosquitos can travel up to two miles.
Those precautions include wearing insect repellent, eliminating standing water, and wearing long-sleeved clothing.
