DELAVAN, Ill. – The City of Delavan is getting a head start on America’s 250th birthday bash next week.
The Delavan Optimist Club is inviting everyone to Veterans Park on Tuesday, June 30th, for a family-friendly event.
Former Mayor Liz Skinner tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan Show” the night will feature a concert packed with patriotic favorites.
“The Pekin Park Band is a 35-piece concert band. And, they’ll be performing patriotic music along with a 40-member community choir,” Skinner says.
Steve Skinner, her husband, is the long-time leader of the Pekin Park Concert Band. A new outdoor performing arts venue at Pekin’s Mineral Springs Park was recently dedicated in his honor.
If you’re coming out to Delavan’s America 250 celebration, there will be free hot dogs for the first 250 people who show up, as well as other refreshments.
Bring your own chairs and blankets. The celebration kicks off Tuesday night at 6:00.
While you’re there, take in the “Avenue of Flags,” a beautiful tribute to veterans and service members throughout the city.
