SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinoisans received more than 308 million dollars in missing money back last year.
Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs says more than 567,000 residents, businesses, and organizations received their money back thanks to improvements through the I-CASH program.
The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office is tasked with safeguarding and returning unclaimed property, including safe deposit boxes, unpaid life insurance benefits, and forgotten bank accounts, and is legally required to return unclaimed property to its owner or heirs, no matter how long it takes.
Most of the matched claims are $50 or less, although some people had multiple claims amounting to much more.
