PEKIN, Ill. – City leaders in Pekin want more time to understand a potential renewal contract with CityLink.
For the second time in as many meetings, the city council tabled a proposal to pay CityLink $210,000 in a one-year contract for three bus lines in the city. Two weeks ago, the topic was tabled after CityLink leaders were not in attendance to answer questions.
On Monday night, CityLink leaders were in attendance to address some of those concerns, including how many people actually ride on the buses in Pekin, maintenance responsibilities, cleaning oil from roads, and how much Pekin is spending compared to other cities.
CityLink says the oil cleanup is being addressed near the bus stop by the courthouse.
City Manager John Dossey says with newer people in charge at CityLink and the city of Pekin, both sides wanted to further understand the contract to help get every concern addressed.
“So that we can make sure that everything is in place that needs to be in place, and that we’re actually addressing issues that the city’s doing, what they’re obligated to do, that CityLink’s doing what they’re obligated to do,” Dossey said.
The contract approval was tabled to late-October, giving Pekin and CityLink a 90-day window to review the contract. The contract was to start on July 1st, with Dossey saying the city will make its payment for the first quarter of the deal, and adjust the contract as needed.
