PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man could spend up to 15 years in prison after being indicted Tuesday by a Peoria County grand jury for a fatal crash last month that claimed the life of a teenaged girl.
36-year-old Shamarr Greenlee faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident where a person died and reckless homicide.
Greenlee allegedly left the scene of the crash and did not report it within 30 minutes as required by law.
The reckless homicide charge alleges he was driving with a “willful and wanton disregard for the safety of people in other vehicles by driving through a stop sign at the intersection of McClure and Maryland … at a high rate of speed.”
17-year-old Isis Horn was a passenger in the other vehicle. The reckless homicide charge alleges Greenlee’s actions unintentionally caused her death.
Greenlee is being held in the Peoria County Jail. A hearing was held after he was extradited back to Peoria from St. Louis, Missouri.
The fatal crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. on July 23, near the intersection of North Central and East McClure, not far from Glen Oak Park, according to Peoria Police.
PPD tried to stop Greenlee’s vehicle just minutes before the crash. He was pulled over, but took off at a high rate of speed, according to officers.
Two other people were injured in the crash.
Greenlee will be arraigned on Thursday.
