PEORIA, Ill. – 77 veterans took off from Peoria International Airport Tuesday morning with the 40th Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
Brent Bixby, the organization’s vice president, tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” that each vet is accompanied by a guardian to help them through their day in Washington, D.C.
“It could be a son or a daughter, or a grandchild, a niece or nephew that’s going along…that they get to actually share their stories that they had during their military career. Every person’s different, every flight is different. It’s absolutely amazing how it works,” Bixby says.
Each vet comes home from D.C. with a different experience.
“We’ve seen veterans able to tell a story that they’ve never been able to tell before, have a home coming they’ve never had before. Again, talk about the uniqueness for every individual, and every flight…it’s amazing,” Bixby says.
Everyone is invited to welcome the Honor Flight home Tuesday night. They are scheduled to return to Peoria International Airport around 9:30.
Shuttles from the CEFCU parking lot near PIA will begin at 8:30.
