PEORIA, Ill. — A fire broke out at a house on Vine Street in Peoria late Wednesday afternoon, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage, but everyone made it out safe.
Crews arriving on Vine Street found heavy smoke pouring from the home. They rushed inside, tackling flames on both the lower and upper levels while a ladder crew cut a hole in the roof to vent trapped smoke and intense heat.
Firefighters searched the house twice to make sure no residents were trapped inside.
There were no injuries. Investigators estimate the damage at $75,000.
An arson investigator is still looking into what started the fire.
