PEORIA, Ill. – A man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in South Peoria earlier this month has been arrested in Milwaukee.
Peoria Police say 30-year-old Maurice Graves was identified as a suspect in the October 5 shooting that killed a woman near Western and Howett.
Police were called to the 600 block of South Western Avenue around 1:20 p.m. that day for reports of gunfire. While on the way, officers learned a vehicle had crashed into the City Market building and a possible shooting victim was inside.
Officers found a woman in the vehicle with at least one gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Peoria Police say investigators identified Graves as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant through the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Detectives, working with the U.S. Marshals Service, found Graves Thursday inside a home in the 7800 block of West Oklahoma Avenue in Milwaukee.
Graves was arrested on a first-degree murder charge and taken to the Milwaukee Police Department, where Peoria detectives interviewed him.
The case remains under investigation.
