PEORIA, Ill. – More pets are lost on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year.
That’s why Peoria County Animal Protection Services says it’s important to make sure your pet is wearing a collar with tags, and their microchip information is current.
“If we pick up a pet that has a microchip, then our officers, our team members, can read that microchip, and return them right home. We want to keep them out of the shelter, and bypass the shelter all together, and the spaces in the shelter (open) for the truly homeless animals that really need them,” Spencer says.
Your pet’s microchip can be checked at Peoria County’s scanning stations at Tower Park in Peoria Heights or at City Hall in West Peoria.
PCAPS will be closed Friday, July 3rd and 4th for the holiday. Animal Control Officers will be answering emergency calls during normal business hours both days.
